The Bayfront Marin House, a 15-room bed and breakfast located on the water in historic St. Augustine, Florida, knows that traveling during the holidays can be stressful. And traveling with children, particularly those who worry that Santa will not be able to find them while they’re away from home, is even more stressful.
“My parents always told me that if I wasn’t in my bed asleep on Christmas, Santa wouldn’t come,” remembers bed and breakfast owner Sandy Wieber. “I would have freaked out if I was traveling during that time.”
To help alleviate that worry for the children visiting the inn, Wieber has created a customized door tag for kids staying at the Bayfront Marin House over Christmas. Adorned with cheerful elf legs, the tag informs Santa that “Billie is staying here tonight”, and then instructs Santa to leave the gifts in the room, in the inn’s dining room (where they will be waiting for the child at breakfast on Christmas morning), at the child’s home, at Grandma’s house, or at some other location.
In addition to the special note for Santa, the staff at the Bayfront Marin House will be happy to gift wrap up to five presents for each couple staying at the inn.
“My family is in Pennsylvania,” says Wieber, “and I know that it can be difficult to take wrapped packages through security during the holidays. So we made it easy for parents: they can bring their unwrapped gifts to our front desk, and we’ll wrap them and deliver them to the children at breakfast! It’s a great way to bring a little bit of home along when you’re traveling for the holidays.”
