You can do more and have more fun on the surface pro 2

“Microsoft actually make their own keyboard”. Apple does too and the Apple
keyboard is cheaper. Though it isn’t a cover, but I’m just pointing out
that there is an official keyboard. The best keyboard for the Air is the
Zagg Folio case. Turns the Air into a laptop, and the iPad can easily be
    removed for normal use.

Also; the pro2 can run legacy apps and flash if that is a big deal still.
The rt however can’t and relies on apps from the Microsoft store.

I only see it like this

-For a great touch experience use the iPad

-For a laptop type tablet hybrid with split touch and legacy keyboard and
mouse experience use the Surface Pro

The surface in terms of touch experience in my book does not replace
Android or iPad it’s 100% different. I’d say the keyboard is a requirement
for the surface pro. There’s just certain things on the Surface that are a
pain to do without the keyboard it should come by default. I’m cheap so I
use a usb hub and usb keyboard.

God, i love your mic, it’s loud with not to much noise

I can’t imagine myself doing office work using a virtual keyboard, it just
    doesn’t feel right.

A nice look at both devices in productive use

  9. Harley Meekins says:

You said “Publisher” instead of “Powerpoint”

  10. MrOnlyforcommenting says:

I think surface is more to productivity considering u get excel word and
all for free. But overall , I would still go for air since im more to media
    consumption.

Surface pro is a laptop and should be compared to a MacBook Air or some
other ultra book. Surface 2/rt, can compare to ipad air & android tablets.
Though the potential is there, developers except for Microsoft aren’t
making many apps for rt. ioS and android dominate that and mainly ios.
Keyboard wise; depends. Surface rt comes w/a keyboard for $100 and ipad air
there are a plethora of keyboards. Yes the rt is productive but the office
suit is limited and the screen is really not optimized to type full on
    documents on it.

  12. perfectforehand says:

Very little to choose between them, but if I want to be productive
“anywhere” not having to be restricted by a work top for separate keyboard,
I’d go with the surface 2.

IPad doesn’t come with a stand or keyboard so why is it in the video trying

A few points you didn’t raise about the Surface 2 in regards to
productivity (I can’t speak for the iPad as I’m a Surface 2 owner, so maybe
you can do it on the iPad too)

    1) Multiple monitor set-up: using Miracast for wireless configuration, or
the micro-HDMI out port for wired, you can easily put your Surface up on
the big screen. Ideal for giving presentations, or just for working more
comfortably when in a home or office setting. You can even have your
desktop with office on one screen, and the metro UI on your tablet doing
something totally different. 1920×1080 display is the perfect aspect
ratio for 99% of screens out there.

    2) Split screen apps: When on the tablet, have OneNote or a webpage open on
one part of the screen, and a document on the other. Great for writing
essays, as you can have your journal one side and Word on the other. If
you’re on the big screen, then use the desktop – the ultimate in
    multitasking.

    3) Storage: Sync across all devices and the cloud with OneDrive
automatically, or save to Micro SDXC, or external HDD/Pen Drive via USB
    port.

    4) Peripherals: USB port allows connections with near endless numbers of
peripheral devices, not just Microsoft. Plug in a full sized Bluetooth
keyboard and mouse if working at a desk, or plug in a wired one if you’re
short on money (wired keyboards and mice cost as little as £5 online). Also
    – Printers! Wireless and wired.

    5) Full-flash browser: Access sites unavailable to other tablets.

    6) Microsoft Office: If you just want the basics, then most tablets have
productivity software that will do the job. However, I would argue that MS
Office is top dog when it comes to productivity suites, and is an industry
    standard so comparability is assured.

One thing to note is the Surface has a trackpad. Working in Word or excel
is a much harder with just touch. Example cut and paste.

Nice test! However I definitely prefer the iPad. The windows lacks
application, even for productivity. Since all my routine depends on the
Beesy app only available on iPad, I would never switch to a windows tablet
(I mean, considering both devices right now, if Beesy become available for
Windows and their tablet better, I might reconsider my statement)

The iPad looks too much like the iPhone but the surface two looks very
good. I had hoped that when Apple created the iPad it would be more like OS
    X. I haven’t had one since iPad 3 but i do think it should be different
from the iPhone maybe not so the iPad mini but the iPad air should or the
rumoured 12-13″ iPad should be like os x , with more creative
    capabilities.

Full office, usb port, attachable keyboard with trackpad, multitasking. We
    have a clear winner here.

  23. Darren Gator says:

Awesome video Dave. Both devices are great for productivity, just depends
on what OS you are used to using. Microsoft is adding more apps all the
time. I have noticed new apps every week since I upgraded to Windows 8.1.

  24. Edwin Fernandez says:

You did not mention how you can split screen on the Surface. That is real
productivity. You can have OneNote (the app, not the desktop version) with
the outline of an essay, and Word on the other side. And if you connect it
to the TV you can have a second screen where you can split even more apps.
